Marko Sinkovec, Legalink member firm in Slovenia, was retained by a Slovenian company which was developing an automated roulette game with world class potential. Marko Sinkovec was presented with the challenge that he knew little of the gaming scene or how the casino industry operated. Enter Douglas Stewart, Legalink´s representative in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, “gambling capital” of the world. Marko Sinkovec knew Douglas Stewart was the man to contact. “My local gaming corporation contacts and international gaming experience enabled Marko’s client to learn fast about the globalisation of gaming. I was also able to advise the company on UK legal issues that arose”, says Douglas Stewart, founder of Legalink and former Chairman. This way, working with local counsel, together they were able to assess and advise on the USA market and legal position as well as UK´s. However, it was also essential to get Trade Mark advice. Enter Joe Brand, from Patton Boggs, in Washington and that aspect of the “the game” was also handled most efficiently. Last but not least, Douglas Stewart also took initial advice from other Legalink members about creating an international corporate structure to help the clients consider their options. Now, as the sales launch of the roulette game draws near, Douglas Stewart expects that both he and Marko Sinkovec will need further help from other Legalink members as the product starts to be sold in the USA, Europe and elsewhere. Needless to say, neither Marko nor Douglas could have represented this important client as effectively without having Legalink friends to consult who were both efficient and effective. And thus, once again, Legalink proved to be the right bet for any client’s truly global legal service needs. |
